Division One: Falkirk 2 Cowdenbeath 0

FALKIRK showed they can handle the heat of a title fight by seeing off Cowden with a competent performance.

Goals on either side of the break were more than enough for them to bag three points and Steven Pressley praised his men for their attitude.

The Bairns boss said: "We're always under pressure to win at home but I was delighted with the professional way my lads went about their business.

"I read that Jimmy Nicholl had worked on his defence in terms of losing early goals and he did his job well as they made life difficult for us."

Cowden keeper David Hay had to stop an early Carl Finnigan shot from close in.

But Stuart Murdoch made the breakthrough in the 20th minute as his shot from 12 yards out gave the Bairns the goal they'd been threatening.

The slender lead was almost cancelled out four minutes after the restart when Joe Mbu was only inches wide with a low shot from the edge of the box.

It was 2-0 in 56 minutes when Ryan Flynn got on the end of a Callum Higginbotham delivery to shoot home from just inside the box.

Cowden boss Nicholl said: "In recent weeks we've been dispirited when we've gone a goal or two down but this time we battled on and had hope.

"However, their second goal hurt us."
